Club History

Club History

Founded in 1953, Our Bowling Club has been a local institution for nearly seven decades. The original President, Secretary and Treasurer of Middleton Beach Bowling Club were Mr Robert Scott – President – from 1954 – 1957; Mr Claude Tyndall-Powel – Secretary – from 1954 to 1956; Mr Ken MacLaren was elected as Treasurer but is not mentioned on our honour boards. Patron was Mr John Norman (who was also Mayor of Albany) and his daughter-in-law, Gwen Norman, was later also a member of the Club. As an aside, Gwen lived to be 101 and was deceased in 2019. The initial subscription was deemed to be £1/-/- (one pound, the equivalent of $36.00 today) until the green was established and to give the fledgling club some funds with which to work.
